Brooklyn Mother Makes Public Plea For 11-Year-Old Son's Safe Return
NEW YORK(CBSNewYork) -- A Brooklyn mother made a public plea on Sunday for the safe return of her young son.
It has been four days since the 11-year-old boy was last seen, CBS 2's Hazel Sanchez reported.
Kareem Granton was last seen in his family's apartment building, community leaders were gathered at the East New York building to demand answers.
"It's my very worst nightmare. You couldn't have a nightmare worse than this," Precious Granton said.
Kareem left the family's apartment to visit a friend on Wednesday, and hasn't been seen or heard from since.
Melinda Pullman told CBS 2's Sanchez that Granton had been in her home on Wednesday.
"He checked the hallway to see if his mom was here because he knows he wasn't supposed to be here," Pulliam said, "He left down the staircase and that was it."
On Sunday, family, friends, and community activists held a rally and posted Kareem's picture around the neighborhood in hopes of bringing him home safely.
"I just don't want to think the worst. I try not to think too much and hope that he is somewhere safe because I don't need no bad phone calls. I don't want no bad phone calls," Precious said, "I just want the phone call saying he's here come get him or we'll send him home."
On Wednesday afternoon, Kareem Granton left his third floor apartment to visit a friend on the fifth floor. Activists have asked anyone who may have seen Granton to notify authorities.
"We're not just gonna sit idly by and let another child appear on a milk carton. That's just not happening," community activist Tony Herbert said, "We're her to say to this community, to everybody out there, if you see Kareem we need you to make a phone call."
Authorities are investigating all possible angles including the possibility that Granton left home on his own.
"He has run away a couple times from his mom and come up here," Pulliam said.
Police said that Kareem left his friend's apartment after a couple of hours but was not seen leaving the building. Police have searched the neighbor's apartment and the Granton's apartment at 400 Williams Ave.
