Brooklyn Mom Picks Up Mega-Millions Jackpot Check
NEW YORK (1010 WINS/CBS 2) -- Even after being officially awarded her Mega-Millions jackpot, Garina Fearon of East New York is still not sure it's really happening.
"It hasn't sinked in yet to be honest with you," Fearon said.

1010 WINS' Kathleen Maloney reported that while Fearon was getting less than half of the $54 million jackpot after taxes, it was plenty to give her family a better life.
Fearson, a Rikers Island corrections worker, said she is planning to help family members in her native Jamaica and send her two teenage daughters to private school.
"I hope this don't change them and I hope it don't change me. I wish it don't change me because I know where I'm coming from and I think I know where I'm going," Fearon said.
Fearson, 34, said she'll buy a new house and possibly trade in her Toyota Camry.
"I think I'm going to get a BMW 5 Series," Fearon chuckled.
And it was an amazing twist of luck that brought the winning ticket to Fearson.
CBS 2's Dana Tyler reported that the single mom went to the Melissa Meat Market in Brooklyn for a $116 million Powerball ticket, but got confused and instead bought a Mega Millions ticket.
Fearson isn't sure whether she'll continue to stay on the job, but her fellow workers said they are very happy for her.
"She's a beautiful person and she deserves everything she got," one co-worker said.
"I think it's a beautiful thing, it's a beautiful thing," another co-worker said.
