Brooklyn Man Who Shot At 2 Cops Hit With Maximum Sentences
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - A 33-year-old Brooklyn man got a very long prison sentence for shooting at two police officers in East Flatbush in 2011.
As WCBS 880's Irene Cornell reported, Jerry Benoit was hit with two maximum sentences to run consecutively for a total of 40 years for the attempted murder of the two officers.

Sergeant Mourad Mourad and his partner, Officer Dennis Steele were on patrol in an unmarked car when they say they saw Benoit acting suspiciously, fidgeting with his waistband. They officers got out of their vehicle and approached him. Benoit then ran, drawing a gun and firing at the two officers.
He was jumping fences, firing at other cops who joined the chase. Finally, he was shot in the exchange of gunfire, but survived.
Police say they found a .38 revolver and PACA bullet proof vest at the scene.
Brooklyn District Attorney Ken Thompson said we are just lucky that the officers, simply doing their job, were not killed.
