Brooklyn Man Gets 7 Years In Prison For Robbing Teen Of Sneakers, iPhone
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - A Brooklyn man has been sentenced to seven years in prison for a robbery that netted him an iPhone and a pair of sneakers.
As WCBS 880's Irene Cornell reported, Victor Santana, 20, held up a teenager in Queens Village last summer and made off with the iPhone and a backpack carrying gold Nike Air sneakers but did not get away for long.
The victim's mother reported the robbery to police and they picked Santana, a reputed member of the Crips gang, out of a photo array, Cornell reported.

Just days after, the victim's mother spotted Santana wearing her son's backpack and what appeared to be his gold sneakers.
She called the police and her brother tackled Santana before the cops arrived, Cornell reported.
When officers arrived, they recovered an unloaded, inoperable black pistol. They also recovered the gold sneakers off of Santana's feet.
"The defendant has proven himself to be a menace to society. With today's sentence, the public can rest assured that the defendant will spend a lengthy time behind bars and no longer be a threat," said Queens District Attorney Richard Brown in a statement.
Santana pleaded guilty to first degree robbery last month and was sentenced on Wednesday. In addition to the prison time, Santana was also sentenced to five years' post-release supervision.
