Brooklyn Man, 28, Killed In Sheepshead Bay Hit-And-Run
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A Brooklyn man was dead after a hit-and-run on Friday night, and police are looking for the driver who mowed him down.
As CBS2's Raegan Medgie reported, police said 28-year-old Francis Perez was struck and killed by a car on Avenue V in Sheepshead Bay, shortly after 8 p.m.
Dardan Parllaku said he saw Perez crossing the street, and bending down to pick something up. That's when he was hit.
"Somebody was driving and hit him, and kept on going. Hit him pretty hard because he hit there and the guy flew into that car right there," he said, "It was bad."
Police said Perez was outside of a marked crosswalk when he was hit, but Parllaku said something must be done.
"It's not right, maybe put lights up or something, put up a crosswalk or stop sign or something," he said. "It's not safe. God forbid it was a child. Children run around here all day long. it would have been ten times worse, even though this dude was pretty young."
Perez was taken to Coney Island Hospital where he was pronounced dead. Police are looking for a blue Toyota SUV or minivan.
