Brooklyn High School Student In Trouble After Allegedly Taking Upskirt Photo Of Teacher
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) – Cell phones are now back in some New York City schools, but one student is already in trouble with the law.
A 15-year-old male student at John Dewey High School in Gravesend, Brooklyn allegedly took a photo up the skirt of a female teacher in a Spanish class and shared it with friends who posted it online, CBS2's Lou Young reported.
"That's mad stupid, that's like invading her privacy," one student said.
"They have a rule that we're not supposed to take pictures in school anyway, so he should know that," senior Jessica Chen said.
Before the cell phone ban was lifted, students used to store them across the street at businesses for a daily rental of 50 cents to a dollar.
News that on the first day the ban was lifted the rules and possibly state law was violated has a lot of students upset.
"He broke the code, he broke the law. We have laws for that, taking pictures of a teacher is really unacceptable," senior Traynell White said.
Once the pictures hit the internet, fellow students turned the student in to the school and the police were called, Young reported.
"The teachers don't let us take it out and if you do take it out, they just take it away and call your parents to come pick it up," junior Kamlawattie Jewdhan said.
Proponents of the cell phone ban were quick to say "I told you so," but many professional educations believe they are just something we have to live with and control, Young reported.
Without getting into details, the Department of Education indicated it is dealing sternly with the student, Young reported. The matter could end up in family court.
There is no indication there are plans to reinstate the cell phone ban at the high school.
