Brooklyn English Teacher Accused Of Having Sex With Student In School & SUV
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Another New York City public school teacher is under arrest after being accused of having sex with one of her students.
Investigators said 36-year-old Erin Sayar, an English teacher at James Madison High School in Brooklyn, engaged in a sexual relationship with a 16-year-old male student.
Sayar was charged with rape, criminal sex act, sexual misconduct and sexual abuse on Thursday afternoon.
Authorities said the alleged trysts happened in the married teacher's SUV and inside the school.
The relationship between Sayar and the student was discovered as a result of their Facebook communications, the office of The Special Commissioner of Investigation (SCI) said.
The investigation into the alleged relationship came to light after the student's girlfriend went to school officials, complaining Sayar had been making "personal comments" to her boyfriend on Facebook.
SCI investigators met with female student, who said she saw Sayar alone with her boyfriend in a small office.
Investigators also spoke with the male student's football coach and gym teacher, who said he had received a hand-written note from Sayar asking permission for the student to meet her two days a week during a scheduled gym class so she could provide English tutoring.
Cell phone records also indicate that from Dec. 9, 2011 through Jan. 2, 2012 Sayar exchanged 19 telephone calls with the student. Records also indicate the pair exchanged 3,856 text messages between Dec. 4 and Dec. 21, the SCI said.
The male student later revealed to investigators that Sayar had flirted with him on Facebook and in text messages. He also said he had sexual encounters with Sayar on eight to 12 occasions when he was 16, the SCI said.
In addition, the student said in early December of 2011, he told Sayar to come to his residence in Brooklyn and when she arrived they engaged in sexual intercourse and oral sex inside her SUV.
Sayar has been removed from the classroom as officials continue to investigate the allegations. The case has now been referred to the schools chancellor and the Brooklyn District Attorney's Office.
