Career Criminal Gunned Down Outside Home Near Playground In Brooklyn
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A career criminal was gunned down in front of his home Friday morning near a school playground in Brooklyn and police are now looking for a suspect.
It happened around 10:30 a.m. near the intersection of Pennsylvania and Livonia avenues in East New York.
The victim, identified as 41-year-old Charles Jones, was shot once in the back of the head as he stepped out of his home, which is across the street from the P.S. 13 playground, 1010 WINS' Al Jones reported. He was also shot once in the back.
"Kids around and a bullet doesn't have a name on it, so it could've just went anywhere," one witness said. "It's frightening that it's in broad daylight...It can be broad daylight, school kids around, they don't care."
Jones, who had 29 prior arrests and was just released from prison after serving 14 years on a drug conviction, was taken to Brookdale University Hospital and Medical Center, where he succumbed to his injuries.
Witnesses said the suspect was dressed as a construction worker. He was wearing a hard hat, orange construction vest and gray hoodie, Jones reported.
Police released a surveillance photo of the suspect late Friday.
There is a construction site near the scene, CBS2 reported.
