Brooklyn Clergy Invited To NYPD Firing Range In The Bronx
NEW YORK (WCBS 880) - It's a rare glimpse into a day in the life of a New York City police officer.
Clergy members from Brownsville and Bedford–Stuyvesant, Brooklyn got a first-hand look at the NYPD firing range at Rodman's Neck in the Bronx, where a series of dangerous scenarios where acted out.
Rev. Cheryl Anthony got to play an officer trying to defuse a domestic violence incident.
"Actually being in this scenario and having to make a decision in terms of someone else's life and safety was very eye opening," said Anthony. "We were just in one scenario. But this happens throughout our city and in the boroughs. One of the things that I know is that... it'll increase our prayer for the police department."

Police shootings are at a record low in the city and the training recruits get is something police commissioner Ray Kelly wants the clergy to see.
"Awful lot of positive feedback and an informed citizen is, in our judgement, the best ally that we can have," Kelly said. "Informed citizens are always helpful to the department and that's our goal."
The clergy members are trying to combat violence in their neighborhoods.
Kelly says more demonstrations are planned.
