Brooklyn Bodega Named After A-Rod To Change Its Name
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) — The owner of a Brooklyn bodega named after New York Yankee Alex Rodriguez says he'll change the store's name as more and more customers complain about the beleaguered baseball star.
Owner Ricardo Rodriguez said customers have been constantly complaining about the name of his store, A-Rod Grocery, for the past month. They walk in with gripes about scandal after scandal, 1010 WINS' Gary Baumgarten reported.
Brooklyn Bodega Named After A-Rod To Change Its Name
The establishment on Myrtle Avenue in Clinton Hill, Brooklyn was called Pena Grocery until Rodriguez renamed it 13 years ago in honor of the then-Seattle Mariners slugger.
But now Rodriguez, who is not related to three-time MVP, says he's sick of listening to all the griping about the third baseman. Rodriguez is playing while he appeals a 211-game suspension for violating baseball's drug agreement and labor contract.
"I think he's a still good baseball player, you know," Ricardo Rodriguez said. "But there's just a lot going on – every time that he does something wrong, they come to the store, they want to talk about it, you know. So I'm kind of a little bit tired of it."
The owner said he might reconsider the name change if A-Rod led the Yankees into the World Series.
On Wednesday A-Rod said he was stopping all non-baseball talk after a wild weekend of off-the-field drama.
