Bronx's Best Fun For Kids
If you haven't spent much time in the Bronx with your family, then you are missing some wonderful experiences! Nearly one quarter of the land in the Bronx is open space, making this borough a great destination for those of us looking to connect our children with nature. That is why CBS New York has chosen these top picks for planning your visit.
The New York Botanical Garden

Bronx River Parkway at Fordham Road
Bronx, NY 10458
There is so much to love about The New York Botanical Garden! You won't believe you are in the Bronx as you wander around the 250 acres of gardens and forest here. We love that wherever you wander there is something for everyone in the family. Take a ride on the tram and it will shuttle you around the gardens, including the interactive Everett Children's Adventure Garden and the Ruth Rea Howell Family Garden, where children are the gardeners. Membership has many benefits for families of every size.
The Riverdale Equestrian Center

West 254rd Street And Broadway
Riverdale, NY 10471
Whether visiting the horses or to taking a riding lesson, The Riverdale Equestrian Center offers a unique experience for the urban family. Located in eclectic Van Cortland Park, this stable offers children a chance to interact with horses and riders. It boasts 21 acres that include 4 outdoor riding arenas and an indoor arena with an indoor and outdoor viewing deck. While visiting, take in a nearby cricket game or hike the beautiful trails in Van Cortland Park.
The Bronx Zoo

2300 Southern Boulevard
Bronx, NY 10460
(718) 220-5103
The Bronx Zoo was made for families! Everyone will have their favorite exhibits, but we recommend the Butterfly Garden for a chance to interact with some creatures that we don't often see in the city. We also love the Children's Zoo for fun ways that kids can learn about animals and Wild Asia Monorail for the opportunity to sit back and discover animals in their habitats. Even though the zoo is huge, it feels easy to navigate and it is comfortable even on the hottest and coldest of days. For the best value we recommend becoming members, buying the "Total Experience" tickets or visiting on Wednesdays, when the entrance fee is waived in lieu of a suggested donation.
