Police: Trespassers Enter Bronx Zoo Exhibits In Separate Incidents Over 2 Days
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Police took two people into custody in as many days after they allegedly trespassed in animal exhibits at the Bronx Zoo.
The first incident happened around 11:50 a.m. Friday. A 56-year-old man climbed over a wooden railing near the snow leopard section of the Himalayan Highlands exhibit, police said. He then went down a trail that is off limits to everyone but Bronx Zoo staff and headed for the snow leopard enclosure, police said.
Police were called and the man was detained, police said. No charges were filed, but the man's season pass was revoked, police said.
On Saturday, a 37-year-old woman entered an off-limits area near the red panda exhibit – also in the Himalayan Highlands section of the zoo right next to the snow leopards, police said. She bypassed posted signs and ended up near the back of the exhibit to take photos, police said.
Police were again called, and the woman was detained and issued a criminal court summons for trespassing, police said.
Police said the woman was employed by the New York Post.
Neither alleged trespasser was ever inside an exhibit with zoo animals, police said.
