Bronx Zoo Debuts Three Primate Babies
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- There's a bit of monkey business going on at the Bronx Zoo.
Three primate babies-- including a brown collared lemur, silver leaf langur and mandrill -- have made their public debut at the zoo.
The silver leaf langur was born in the spring and has a bright orange coat which the Wildlife Conservation Society said will turn gray after about five months.
The species is native to Brunei, Indonesia, and Malaysia and listed as "near threatened" by International Union for Conservation of Nature.
A brown collared lemur was also born in the spring and can now be seen at the zoo's Madagascar! exhibit.
The animals are native to tropical forests of southeastern Madagascar, where they are threatened by charcoal production and slash-and-burn agriculture. They are listed as "vulnerable" by the IUCN.
The zoo's Congo Gorilla Forest is now home to a Mandrill that was born last fall.
The animals are found in Cameroon, Congo, Equatorial Guinea, and Gabon and are also considered "vulnerable" because of habitat loss and hunting.
