Arsenal Found When Police Pull Over Speeding Car in Soundview, The Bronx
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Police said they found an arsenal of weapons, along with fireworks and marijuana, when officers pulled over a car in the Soundview section of the Bronx this week.
Around 9:30 p.m. this past Wednesday, NYPD Sgt. Victor Villalobos and Officer Wilber Martinez, of the Bronx Housing Impact Response Team, were in uniform in a marked squad car near 1020 Soundview Ave. in the Bronx when they saw a white sedan speed past them, police said.
The car was missing both its front and rear bumper, police said.
The officers pulled over the car in front of 1670 Watson Ave., police said.
Upon approaching the car, the officers saw a round of ammunition lying on the floor of the car behind the driver's seat, police said. They also found five guns, one BB gun, 10 ammunition magazines, one "speedloader," and about 240 rounds of ammunition in various sizes, police said.
Four of the rounds of ammunition were hollow-point, police said.
The officers also found an assortment of fireworks and a small amount of marijuana, police said.
The driver and passenger were arrested on the spot, police said. Five more rounds of ammunition were found on the passenger, who also had an open warrant while the driver a suspended driver's license, police said.
The driver – Justin Reyes, 21, of the Bronx – was charged with criminal possession of a weapon, reckless driving, aggravated unlicensed operation of a vehicle, unlawful possession of fireworks and marijuana, and vehicle equipment violations, police said.
The passenger, Marco Lugo, 20, of Kileen, Texas, was charged with criminal possession of a weapon and unlawful possession of fireworks and marijuana, police said.
Police have released an image of the recovered evidence.
