Police: 2 Shot During Attempted Robbery At Bronx Subway Station
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Two people were shot during an attempted robbery at a Bronx subway station Saturday.
It happened in the Fordham Heights section inside the 182nd-183rd Street subway station by the B and D lines.
As CBS2's Cory James reports, many passengers were frantically trying to get out, but Jeremy Lynch says he tried hiding to save his life.
"I heard the shots, and I took cover behind the booth," he said.
He says it was pure chaos after three gunshots went off while several people, including kids, were nearby.
"Everybody was running, scattering in different directions," he said.
Lynch says when he turned around, he saw two men on the ground. The 46-year-old pulled out his phone and recorded a video, capturing the moment when police arrived.
"They swarmed and said everybody leave, everybody get the F out of here," Lynch said.
According to the NYPD, a 21-year-old man with a gun tried robbing a 40-year-old man.
Authorities say the victim was trying to defend himself when the suspect shot him in the stomach, but investigators say both men continued to fight and the victim ended up shooting the suspect in the head and neck.
Surveillance video from a nearby store shows the two men who were shot being pulled out of the subway station on stretchers before they were rushed to St. Barnabas Hospital.
Another shooting in New York City, and Lynch says it's getting out of control.
"It makes me sad for the children and the people that can't leave," he said.
The victim is expected to survive, but CBS2 has been told the suspect is in critical condition.
