Bronx Sinkhole Filled After CBS2 Demands Answers
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The city has taken action after CBS 2 demanded answers about a sinkhole in the Baychester section of the Bronx.
Residents had been complaining about a hole that was damaging cars in the 2500 block of Young Avenue in the Bronx. Late last month, they said they called the city's 311 number over and over again to get it fixed.
There were even ridges in the pavement showing where the undercarriages of the cars have gouged right into it.
"I mean, who's going to take care of this now?" area resident Dominic Agostino said last month. "(Is) the (Department of Transportation) going to take care of this? (Is) the city going to take care of this?"
Neighbors said the city had paved over the hole at least once, but the problem remained until CBS2 called. Now there is fresh blacktop over the hole.
"It was a terrible situation, a dangerous one and I'm glad Channel 2 got into it and moved things up a bit," said area resident Grace Boscolo.
The city earlier had said the sinkhole was a result of two faulty sewer lines that needed to be fixed by homeowners.
