Bronx Parents Indicted In Connection To Death Of 2-Month-Old Son
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A man and woman from the Bronx are facing separate charges after the body of their nearly two-month-old son was found buried in the woods in Dutchess County in December 2015.
Danielle Whyte, 31, told staff at the New York Presbyterian Hospital in White Plains of the death of her seven-week-old son, Mason Whyte, while visiting her therapist as a patient, according to police.
Whyte confessed that she and the the boy's father, Jose Feliciano, 51, drove to Brewster, N.Y. According to officials, the couple checked into a room at Heidi's Inn on Route 22 before driving to nearby Dover to bury the child's body.
Police later discovered the boy's body in a wooded area in Dover.
Feliciano was arrested and charged with murder after being accused of allegedly smothering and choking the 2-year-old child in their apartment on Bogart Avenue in the Bronx on Dec. 10, police said.
Police arrested Whyte in connection to the incident on Tuesday afternoon.
According to officials, Feliciano applied "blunt force trauma" to the child's head and both parents neglected to call 911 in response to the injury.
Feliciano was also seen on surveillance video carrying a duffel bag, with the child's body believed to be in the bag, CBS2 reported.
Both Whyte and Feliciano were indicted on separate charges in court on Tuesday afternoon.
Feliciano pled not guilty to Murder in the 2nd Degree, Manslaughter in the 3rd Degree and Concealment of a Human Corpse.
Whyte pled not guilty to charges of Manslaughter in the 2nd Degree, Criminally Negligent Homicide and Concealment of a Human Corpse.
If convicted, Whyte faces up to 15 years in prison. Feliciano could face 25 years to life behind bars.
