NYPD: Man Seen On Video Wanted For Questioning In Shooting Death Of Bronx Mom
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Police have released surveillance video of man who they say is wanted for questioning in connection with the shooting death of a mother of four in the Bronx.
48-year-old Cindy Diaz was doing what parents love to do -- getting dinner for her children -- when she was gunned down.
Police say the video shows the man fleeing from the scene of the shooting, which happened just after 5:30 p.m. Friday on Boston Road.
The shooting stemmed from an argument between two men that turned violent, according to police.
Diaz was hit by a bullet in her torso and arm. She was taken to Saint Barnabas Hospital where she was pronounced dead. Another man involved in the altercation was also injured, police said.
Angel Rosario is Diaz's former long-time boyfriend and father of her four sons, aged 11 to 15-years old. He tells CBS2's Hazel Sanchez that their sons are devastated and something needs to be done to prevent this kind of heartache from hitting other families.
"I don't know his story," he said. "I don't know what brought him to that point. But the change needs to happen so that people think about other people, and say 'I want to help you, not hurt you'."
Rosario says the area where Diaz was killed is poorly lit and has little police presence, making it a hotbed for crime. He's urging the city to step in.
"We can stop that gun from coming out of that pocket by having cameras, by having more police on corners that are hot because people will think about it," he said.
CBS2 brought his concerns to Mayor Bill de Blasio, who said first and foremost his heart goes out to the family.
"I'll get back to you on what we think we need in that location," he added. "But the number one point is if we think there is something that we think is not being addressed sufficiently we will add an additional police presence."
Rosario says he is trying to rally a group of supporters to come to City Hall this week in hopes of getting a face-to-face meeting with the mayor and city leaders.
Police are offering a $2,500 reward for any information leading to an arrest in this case.
