Bronx Mom Arrested As ACS Investigates Death Of Young Son
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) -- A New York City woman has been arrested and charged in the death of her 5-year-old son.
Police charged 21-year-old Kim Crawford with murder and manslaughter. It was not immediately clear if she had a lawyer.
Police said they found her son, Jamar Johnson, unconscious and not breathing at her Bronx home.
According to The New York Times, police said he had been struck several times in the torso. It said the medical examiner's office said an autopsy had revealed internal abdominal injuries.
A city Administration for Children's Services spokesman told the Times it was investigating the death and that Crawford's other child was in its care.
Authorities said Crawford has had at least two previous arrests, one for assault and another for drug possession.
