Neighbors: Bronx Woman Has Not Been Seen In 3 Months
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A Bronx nurse has not been seen for almost three months, and her suspicious coworkers have contacted police.
As CBS2's Valerie Castro reported, detectives were seen at a home in the Bedford Park section of the Bronx taking what appeared to be documents and a computer tower – all seized as evidence in the missing persons case.
"I'm very concerned," said a neighbor named Lisha. "I feel like very nervous right now about it -- a bad feeling."
Neighbors wondered when they last saw the woman who lives in the house – Mahfuza Rahman, 30.
Police sources said she was last seen by coworkers at Bellevue Hospital Center where she works as a nurse – and that was back in December.
Around that time, they said Rahman's husband told them she had gone back to her home country of Bangladesh for a family emergency. But after a lengthy absence with no word from her, the coworkers went to police.
A neighbor spoke to the woman's husband several months ago, and she said he has not seen the couple or their daughter since.
"On December 15th, he told me, 'Watch my house, I got to go to my country for two weeks.' That's it. That's the last time," said next-door neighbor Jose Garcia.
Garcia asked Rahman's husband said the purpose of his trip was "vacation."
But this past weekend, investigators searched the property and even dug up the front yard.
"I think they are looking for the lady's body," Garcia said.
On Monday, investigators looked through the home with flashlights. It appeared as though the power had been shut off.
Police do have evidence that the woman's husband traveled out of the country with their daughter, but it was unclear late Monday where she might be.
Police sources said investigators searched the home with a cadaver dog on Sunday but found no evidence of foul play.
