Mother, 6-Year-Old Son Fight Back During Bronx Laundromat Robbery
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A 22-year-old mother and her 6-year-old son put up quite a fight when police said a man tried to rob them in a Bronx laundromat.
The suspect walked up to the woman and child at a laundromat located at 1720 Boone Avenue around 5 a.m. Sunday.
He tried to sell them DVDs and when the woman said she wasn't interested, police said the suspect grabbed her iPhone that was charging on a chair next to her.
The suspect tried to run, but the woman grabbed him by the arm and stopped him, police said. He managed to break free and tried running to a different exit but was blocked by the woman's son, who stepped in his path, police said.
The suspect punched the boy in the face, knocking him to the ground, police said.
The woman chased the suspect out into the parking lot and wrestled her phone away from him, but the suspect still managed to get away, police said.
The woman sustained minor injuries and her son suffered swelling to his face and lacerations to the back of his head. They were both treated at a local hospital.
Police released surveillance video and a vague description of the suspect. They said he is a Hispanic man, approximately 50-55 years old with a thin build.
