Police Seek Woman In 2 Knifepoint Robberies In The Bronx
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The NYPD has released new surveillance video of a woman wanted in connection with at least two robberies in the Bronx.
On Aug. 17, the suspect walked up to a 44-year-old woman in the stairwell of an apartment building on Elliot Place and "demanded she give her everything she has," police said. When the victim refused, investigators said the suspect pulled out a knife and threatened to cut the victim. The suspect took $80 in cash from the victim and ran off.
Two days prior, police said the suspect robbed a 20-year-old woman at knifepoint inside an elevator on Gerard Avenue, police said. The suspect took the woman's cellphone before fleeing, police said.
The suspect is believed to be between 18 and 21 years old, police said. She has curly blond hair and was last seen wearing a pink shirt and blue shorts.
"I never feel safe enough to completely let my guard down, but safe enough to make a life here," Nakia Thomas told CBS2's Matt Kozar.
Thomas is an Ivy League educated lawyer who recently bought an apartment in the neighborhood.
Despite the recent robberies and a slew of crime in the past, she said the area feels like it's getting safe.
"I think neighborhood is fine. It's very colorful, lots of creative folks. All really good people, generous people," she said.
Tina Yoonen is from Finland and was also surprised by the robbery pattern.
"I've lived here for about 10 years now and generally I feel like it's a safe neighborhood," she said.
But Yoonen acknowledged that there will always be crime, regardless of where she lives in the city, and for now, she'll be on the lookout for the suspect.
