Bronx DA: 84 People Charged In Huge Drug Bust Involving 4 Different Gangs
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork)-- The Bronx district attorney is breaking open a huge drug conglomerate. It's considered the biggest gang bust of its kind in the borough.
Four gangs were working together, sources told 1010 WINS' Juliet Papa. The members are accused of selling, dealing, and violence that involved 22 street shootings.
The activity went up the East Coast where they flooded New Hampshire and Massachusetts towns with drugs and where they also got guns, according to 1010 WINS' police sources. Bronx District Attorney Darcel Clark said the gangs formed "an alliance of evil" to transport cocaine and heroin throughout the region.
Police Commissioner Bill Bratton said the drugs were resold in New England for nearly four times the price that they were bought for in New York City.
Of the 286-count indictment, 100 are violence-related.
Eighty-four people are being charged in the case, with 18 still at large. Officials said 15 guns and 16 kilograms of drugs were recovered.
The 18-month investigation began after a police officer in the Bronx connected the dots and worked with the feds to make the case.
