Brooklyn Woman Charged In Assault On 10-Year-Old Boy At Bronx Bodega
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Police have made an arrest in connection with an assault on a 10-year-old boy inside a Bronx bodega.
Police said on Saturday 47-year-old Jathiyah Richards, of Brooklyn, was charged with assault, endangering the welfare of a minor and menacing in regard to the Aug. 19 incident.
The assault happened inside a bodega located at 271 E. 206th St. in the Norwood section of the borough, authorities said.
Mohammed Almontsir, 10, said he walked into his father's deli when he suddenly incurred the wrath — and ultimately the first — of one angry customer.
The woman was apparently irate because she considered the boy's curt request for a bag as rude, CBS2's Steve Langford reported in September.
"She told me to say please and I said it's none of her business," Mohammed said.
What happened next was all caught on surveillance video.

Richards is allegedly seen being held back by a companion before quickly getting right in the boy's face. She then chases the boy down an aisle and appears to smack him. Seconds later, as Mohammed tries to get away at the front of the store, she appears to punch him in the nose.
Mohammed's father said he returned to the deli after the woman had left and was outraged when he found out what happened.
