Bronx DA: Members Of 'Lyman Place Gang' Used Facebook To Plot Criminal Activity
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- An early morning NYPD raid in the Bronx netted eight alleged members of the Lyman Place Gang, on Wednesday.
Bronx District Attorney Robert Johnson and Police Commissioner Bill Bratton announced the raid along with the indictments of seven other members who were already in custody facing charges for crimes including conspiracy, robbery, and attempted murder.
Authorities said that gang members used Facebook to discuss the acquisition of weapons and ammunition, as well as the targeting of victims in rival gangs. Online communication also detailed robberies which several alleged members have been charged with.
Nathaniel Bellamy, 19, Juan Brown, 20, Anthony Floyd, 20, Malcolm Fogle, 19, Saliym Gresham, 23, Andrew Hunt, 20, Daquan Johnson, 21, Clyde McGraw, 19, Jacob Rowland, 18, Kevin Sarauw, 19, Daquan Carrasco, 18, Jayquan Anthony, 26, Danny Hunter, 25, Matthew Simpson, 25, and Fabian Johnson, 17, all face a series of charges.
DA Johnson called the arrests an important step in making the streets of the Bronx safer.
"This kind of violence is senseless, and it is our office's goal, along with that of the NYPD, to make sure that guns are taken off the streets, and those wrongdoers who would use guns or other means to threaten the safety of law-abiding citizens are targeted," he said.
Commissioner Bratton echoed the DA's sentiments.
"This investigation is an example of law enforcement addressing the violence caused by street crews such as the Lyman Gang whose reckless actions affect the quality of life of the residents where they operate," Bratton said.
