Woman Struck In The Head By Brick Thrown From Roof Of Bronx Apartment Building

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A Bronx woman was hit by a brick tossed from a roof, 60 feet above where she was standing on the sidewalk.

The 66-year-old woman was in front of the building where she has lived for many years.

As CBS2's Tony Aiello reported, the routine day was shattered by a dangerous projectile from above.

"All I heard was a brick came from out of nowhere, and hit my grandmother in the head, and she was just out," Tayah Johnson said.

Johnson was Anxious for cops to catch whoever went onto the roof of 1330 Morris Ave., and tossed a brick to the sidewalk six stories below.

The brick left behind a smudge mark and a broken fragment the size of a quarter.

"I thought she was dead. I thought she was dead," Carlos Cruz said.

The brick hit Norma Dicks on the head, knocking her to the ground.

"She's a very kind woman. She does no one any harm, always in and out of the building, shopping. I can't believe this happened," a neighbor said.

"It's scary because my kids were sitting outside, waiting for their bus to camp just this morning in the same area," Keya Sewer said.

The area to the roof is locked, alarmed, and under surveillance, but residents said people go up there anyway, and they're worried.

"I feel like paranoid now, don't want to walk out or come into my building. I don't know if I'm gonna be next," a resident said.

The brick knocked the woman out cold, but she came to and was alert when transported to Lincoln Medical Center.

Police are scouring surveillance video, hoping to find an image of the suspect.
