Teen Stabbed, Wounded Aboard No. 4 Train In The Bronx
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A 15-year-old boy was stabbed aboard a subway train in the Bronx late Wednesday afternoon.
The boy was on a northbound No. 4 train near the Mosholu Parkway elevated stop Wednesday afternoon, when he was attacked by a group of as many as 10 teens.
The suspects struck him with a cane, beat him with their fists, and stabbed him with some type of sharp instrument, police sources said.
The boy was rushed to Jacobi Medical Center.
As CBS2's Dave Carlin reported, the boy appeared to have been stabbed seven times. He was expected to survive, police sources said.
The young suspects fled the station before the area swarmed with cops and ambulances arrived.
Following the stabbing, northbound No. 4 train service ran express from Bedford Park to Woodlawn between 4:30 and 5:30 p.m., the MTA said. Regular service later resumed.
The attack was witnessed by several commuters.
"Ten guys are after one guy, that's evil," Joe O'Brien said.
Bedford Park resident Frances Rudland took cell phone video as first responders arrived.
"The police show up and the ambulance, and I'm saying, 'What went on up there now?" he said.
The suspects were on the loose Wednesday night, and the sharp object used to stab the boy has not been recovered.
Police believe the attack may have been gang-related.
"You see it all the time. They come out of school they're rowdy, play fighting, and one thing leads to another, and it doesn't surprise me at all," Celeste Erazo said.
The victim was interviewed at the hospital and he was not cooperative with police, sources said.
