Broadway Stars Join Forces To Help Fix Century-Old Church
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Some of Broadway's finest are coming together to help raise money for a century-old church on the Upper West Side.
With the Church of St. Paul and St. Andrew, on West 86th Street and West End Avenue, in urgent need of repairs, actress Victoria Clark, one of its congregants, gathered some of her fellow performers for the all-star "Bless This House" holiday benefit show at the church Monday night.
Among the performers slated to hit the stage are Clark, Mary Louise Parker, David Hyde Pierce, Kelli O'Hara and Hunter Ryan Herdlicka.
Herdlicka told CBS 2's Andrea Grymes the interfaith church serves as more than a house of worship.
"They have New York's largest emergency food program, a homeless shelter for women, tutoring programs for kids," he said.
"It's just a wonderful place. It's a really great church in that it's a pioneer of interfaith relations -- gay rights and immigrant laws and anti-proverty," said Herdlicka, whose credits include "A Little Night Music." "It's just an amazing, welcoming place that everyone can come to."
General admission tickets cost $40, with discounts available for students, seniors and those with limited income.
