Broadway Reports Strong Numbers Despite Blizzard
NEW YORK (WCBS 880) – The theatre industry reported that last week was probably the highest grossing week in Broadway history, despite a city paralyzed by the blizzard.
There were 21 shows averaging 90 percent of capacity, reports WCBS 880's Peter Haskell.

It was even a suggestion from Mayor Bloomberg himself.
"So it's a good time, if you want to go see something that you normally would have trouble getting into, tonight's actually an opportunity to do so," said Bloomberg, who was ridiculed for the comment.
But before you credit the mayor with the attendance boost, Robert Diamond of BroadwayWorld.com said you should consider the history.
"That's always Broadway's biggest week of the year, and this year was no exception," Diamond said.
Diamond noted there were also nine shows closing and they usually get a boost in their final days.
