Bridgeport Museum Receives Grant For Tornado Recovery
BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (AP/CBSNewYork) -- A Bridgeport museum dedicated to showman P.T. Barnum has received a $40,000 grant to help it recover from damage caused by a tornado last year.
The Barnum Museum said Friday that the grant from the Fairfield County Community Foundation will go toward an architectural review to determine the scope of the damage. The museum received a $100,000 grant from the Connecticut Commission on Culture and Tourism last fall for the same purpose.
The rare tornado caused structural damage and scattered debris throughout the museum when it swept through Bridgeport last June.
The original museum building is owned by the city of Bridgeport and listed in the National Register of Historic Places. It remains closed while repairs are pending.
