Bridgeport Bluefish Independent League Team Offers Tim Tebow A Baseball Contract
BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (CBSNewYork) -- If Tim Tebow is serious about playing baseball, there's a team in Connecticut that will gladly take him.
The Bridgeport Bluefish of the independent Atlantic League announced Wednesday they have offered the former NFL quarterback a contract.
"The Bluefish welcome Tim with open arms," team general manager Jamie Toole said in a news release. "The Atlantic League is all about giving players opportunity, and we think Bridgeport would be a great place for him to begin his professional baseball career."
The team even posted a photo on Twitter of a Tebow Bluefish jersey.
Tebow would undoubtedly help many minor league teams at the turnstiles, and the Bluefish have a reputation for gimmicky ideas aimed at boosting ticket sales, including having a trio of pro wrestlers manage the team for one night.
Tebow worked out in Los Angeles on Tuesday in front of scouts from 28 major league teams. The 29-year-old Heisman Trophy winner is hoping to launch a second career in pro sports, but has not played organized baseball since his junior year of high school.
The former Broncos and Jets QB also has reportedly been offered a contract to play winter ball in Venezuela. He's likely holding out for a shot in a major league farm system.
