Brentwood's 'Halloween Man' Delights Trick-Or-Treaters With Broadway-Style Songs
BRENTWOOD, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- No one cheers the arrival of Halloween more than songwriter Jeff Michael.
Michael -- who is becoming known to locals as the 'Halloween Man' -- has performed his original Halloween songs for a growing number of equally fright-night dressed guests at his home in Brentwood for the last five years.
"I love that people use their imagination to dress up," Michael said. "And I like to see an alter-ego in them."
From dead brides to Minnie Mouse and Darth Maul, costumed onlookers are invited inside Michael's decked-out Halloween home to see his Broadway-styled show, TV 10/55 Long Island Bureau Chief Richard Rose reported.
Michael's walls are filled with childhood memories of him with his brother, putting on Halloween puppet shows or trick or treating.
Every room is filled with vintage decorations he's collected, dating back to the 1950s.
Michael's mother, Helen Parenti, has no choice but to be part of the yearly act. This year, she's dressing up as a dead witch.
Parenti said neighborhood kids are never sure if they want to ring the doorbell on Halloween.
"When I open the door to give them trick or treat, they're scared of everything that's hanging in the living room, the dining room," Parenti said.
Michael said he has performed his spooky songs at theme parks and cabarets, while keeping his day job serving up coffee at a local Starbucks.
After Halloween's over, Michael plans to start working on a Christmas-themed musical show, to be held at his home for the holiday season.
