Bratton: NYPD On Pace For 1 Million Fewer Enforcement Stops In 2015
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Police Commissioner Bill Bratton is crowing that the NYPD is on track to make 1 million fewer enforcement contacts with the public by the time 2015 ends.
He pointed out that in 2011, the Police Department conducted nearly 700,000 stop-question-and-frisk stops, WCBS 880's Rich Lamb reported.
"This year, we're trending at about 2,500 a month, so that's a drop-off of well over 600,000 enforcement stops, principally minority communities," Bratton said.

There have been other reductions in low-level marijuana arrests and for violations for public drinking and jaywalking, for example.
Bratton expects the reduced number of stops to bolster NYPD relations with the minority community.
