Bratton Gives Brooklyn Cops Pep Talk Ahead Of Planned Protests
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Protests are planned for Thursday evening near the Brooklyn precinct house where two murdered NYPD officers were assigned.
Police Commissioner Bill Bratton attended the morning roll call at the 84th Precinct station house in Downtown Brooklyn and gave a pep talk to officers being assigned to the demonstrations.

"We want to make sure that, as they deal with that, that the emotions, that we'll be watching for that," Bratton told reporters, including WCBS 880's Marla Diamond and 1010 WINS' Juliet Papa. "And just encouraging them to do what we expect of them. Be professional, as we're encouraging all of our officers with the increased issues of terrorism. Try to remain even more alert and vigilant than they might normally be."
Mayor Bill de Blasio asked the protesters to tone down any anti-police rhetoric.
"There is a small group that has consistently used absolutely unacceptable, reprehensible language towards officers," the mayor said Wednesday. "And they have a constitutional right to do it, but they should stop doing it."
Bratton said he does not expect any major disruptions.

"Neither one (of the protests) is expected to be a very large demonstration," he said.
Officer fatigue from the protests is, in part, responsible for the recent ticket-writing slowdown, Bratton said. He said arrests and summonses are still about 10 percent off their usual numbers.
Bratton also said the police delegation that attended the funeral for the French cops killed in last week's terror attacks stayed several more days and visited the shooting scenes to gather intelligence and insight.
The commissioner said every New York City cop will soon receive guidelines on dealing with active shooters.
