Brandon Jacobs On Return To Giants: 'This Is The Place I Love Most'
EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) — The New York Giants signed running back Brandon Jacobs Tuesday.
Jacobs, who played for the Giants from 2005-2011 and was a part of two Super Bowl-winning teams, should help a backfield in flux. Second-year starter David Wilson is backed up by Da'Rel Scott and Michael Cox. But New York ran for only 50 yards in the season-opening loss to the Cowboys and was plagued by turnovers.
"Whatever they need me to do," Jacobs said. "Whatever role they want me to play, I'll come in and do it. I know the offense. I know they've made some tweaks, and I'll do whatever I have to do."
"We want to be the group that leads the team to victory."
Jacobs, a 2005 fourth-round draft choice, has played in 100 regular-season games for the Giants, with 48 starts. The franchise leader with 56 rushing touchdowns, Jacobs, 31, played in 11 postseason games with five starts, as well.
"The Giants have given me a great opportunity," he said. "This is where I wanted to be. These are the coaches I want to play for and I wanted to come back with my teammates. This is the place I love most."
New York (0-1) will meet Denver (1-0) on Sunday.
"I'm ready to go," Jacobs said. "If I need to go Sunday, I can go Sunday. There's no issue."
