Former LI Boy Scout Leader Gave Alcohol, LSD To Teen, Authorities Say
WEST BABYLON, N.Y. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- A former assistant boy scout leader has been removed from his Long Island post after being accused of giving drugs and alcohol to a teenager.
Lawrence Moschitta, 32, allegedly gave alcohol and LSD to a 13-year-old boy while at his home in West Babylon on Dec. 3. Court documents referred to the LSD by one of its street names, acid.
Assistant Deputy Suffolk County Tim Sini said Moschitta was charged with unlawfully dealing with a child and failure to exercise control of a minor -- both misdemeanors. He was released on $2,500 cash bail or $5,000 bond.
Moschitta was an assistant leader for Troop 183, but has since been removed, WCBS 880's Sophia Hall reported.
Anthony Moschitta, the suspect's father said his son was a former Eagle Scout, and denied the accusations.
"He would never do anything to endanger a Scout,'' he said.
Scoutmaster Guy Zummo released a letter to parents, identifying the teen as a boy scout.
"The alleged incident happened outside of a Troop function, but did involve one of our scouts,'' Zummo said in the letter.
Zummo said the troop is working with the police as they continue to investigate the incident.
