Cops: Boy, 4, Attacked For Gold Chain Inside L.I. Pharmacy

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. (WCBS 880) -- A Long Island boy was injured after becoming the victim of an attempted robbery inside of a pharmacy, WCBS 880's Sophia Hall reports.

The attack happened last Saturday inside Choice Pharmacy in Hempstead, when the 4-year-old boy was standing with his mother, police said.

WCBS 880's Sophia Hall reports from Hempstead, LI where authorities found and arrested the teen.

When the mom wasn't looking, 17-year-old Dominique Mack attempted to pull a gold chain off of the boy's neck, police said. She tried several times but the chain never broke loose, police said.

The attempts to steal the chain were so forceful the boy was nearly lifted off his feet. When the child started crying, the teen left the store, police said.

The child complained of neck pain and his mother observed redness and swelling to his neck, according to authorities.

Mack was arrested and charged with attempted robbery in the second-degree, assault in the second-degree and endangering the welfare of a child. 

Mack was scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday in First District Court, Hempstead.
