Some Find Borgata Casino Restaurant's MLK Day Menu Offensive
ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Not everyone was pleased with the menu at one Atlantic City casino.
The Borgata said one of its restaurants intended to honor Martin Luther King Jr. on his birthday by offering fried chicken, collard greens and macaroni and cheese.
Some Twitter users objected to what they considered racially offensive choices. Others called the criticism political correctness run amok.
Joe Lupo, senior vice president of the Borgata, said The Metropolitan restaurant chose menu items that were among King's favorite foods, as documented in numerous historical sources.
The restaurant's manager is an African-American woman and she chose the menu intending to honor King on his birthday, Lupo said.
The Borgata's restaurants offer menus geared toward holidays, including Chinese meals at Chinese New Year, and Mexican food on Cinco de Mayo, Lupo said.
