Boomer & Carton, Yanks To Host Charity Celeb Game For Families Of Slain Officers

NEW YORK (WFAN) -- Boomer & Carton and the New York Yankees are going to bat for New York's Finest.
Craig Carton and Boomer Esiason are hosting a star-studded celebrity softball game on Wednesday night, June 3 at Yankee Stadium to show their appreciation for the NYPD and honor the memories of slain officers Brian Moore, Rafael Ramos and Wenjian Liu.
General-admission tickets will be $12 and are scheduled to go on sale Tuesday at Ticketmaster.com. Proceeds will benefit the Silver Shield Foundation, the Widows' and Children's Fund, and the families of Moore, Ramos and Liu.
"Really, these are our heroes -- our fallen heroes," Yankees COO Lonn Trost said in announcing the event Friday morning on WFAN. "Every day they put their lives on the line so that we can so that we can live securely, we can feel secure and we can be secure."
The Yankees are donating the use of their stadium for the 8 p.m. game, Carton said.
"When you realize what they do so that we can walk around this city feeling comfortable and not being concerned, they put those badges on every day and go out there, and it's their lives that are at stake, not ours," Trost told Boomer and Carton. "George Steinbrenner realized this as early as 1982, when he formed the Silver Shield Foundation, which takes care of the education for fallen police officers and firemen in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut, and state troopers. So it's the least we can do to work with you."

Every person who buys a ticket will get a voucher to attend a future Yankees game. The June 3 charity game will be broadcast live on WFAN, and the YES Network will also partner in the event, Carton said.
Celebrities and NYPD players will be announced in the coming weeks. One of the expected participants is Buffalo Bills head coach Rex Ryan, who will make his way to the Bronx despite having offseason workouts on his team's schedule.
"Rex Ryan has pledged, as long as he can get a flight out early Thursday morning ... Rex Ryan's coming back to play in this game," Carton said.
The goal: to fill at least 40,000 seats.
"We just hope that everyone, starting Tuesday, will buy a ticket to the game," Carton said. "And we just want to let people know that in conjunction with the New York Yankees -- we are the home of the Yankees -- that CBS Radio, WFAN and the New York Yankees are going to try to make one very special night for officers and their families, and let them know that they are appreciated, they are respected, and that we've got their back as much as they have ours."
