Booker Releases First Ad In U.S. Senate Race
NEWARK, N.J. (CBSNewYork) - Newark Mayor Cory Booker has released his first ad in the U.S. Senate race to fill the seat left vacant by the death of Sen. Frank Lautenberg.
The social media-savvy mayor posted a link to the 30-second video titled "Run" to Twitter on Tuesday evening.
In the ad, Booker touts his record and his plan for action on the national level.
"I've spent my career not running from challenges, but toward them," Booker starts.
He then goes on to describe Newark's achievements since he's been in office.
"I've proven that by bringing people together, even with big problems we can make big progress and improve people's lives," said Booker. "Now, I'm asking to be your senator."

Booker had announced his intention to run for Senate even before Lautenberg's death earlier this month. He will face off against three other Democratic challengers in a primary in August. The special general election will be held in October.
"Washington ducks our problems. I won't," Booker said in the ad. "The work starts now."
Gov. Chris Christie appointed Republican Attorney General Jeff Chiesa to temporarily fill Lautenberg's seat until the special election is held. Chiesa is not running to keep the seat.
