On Thursday, the Boston Red Sox announced that Valentine is their new manager.
Valentine, who was drawing a good salary from his job at ESPN, took only a token salary from the city of $10,000 and he donated that charity.
Pavia says Valentine, a Stamford native, worked as hard at his city job as he did in his lifelong career on the baseball field and in the dugout.
"When he was faced with an issue, Fran, he dealt with it head on, didn't wait, didn't procrastinate, didn't think about it, dealt with it immediately," Pavia told WCBS 880 Connecticut Bureau Chief Fran Schneidau.
The mayor recalls Valentine took a hands-on approach to the job, even directing traffic on the streets of Stamford during a power outage.
He now takes his responsibilities to the next level, says the mayor, adding that's what we'll see in Boston.
"Stay tuned. I think you're going to see another dimension of Bobby Valentine very shortly," said Pavia.
