Board Says Westchester County Exec. Rob Astorino Still Has Security Detail On Payroll
WHITE PLAINS, NY (WCBS 880) – A fight is brewing in Westchester County over who drives county executive Rob Astorino to work and who, if anyone, is guarding him.
Astorino says he drives himself to and from work almost every day, but he does admit an on-duty police officer will drive him to meetings in New York City or Albany from time to time so he can do work in the car.

"On occasion, we do use a police officer for specific reasons," Astorino told WCBS 880's Catherine Cioffi.
The county board chairman Ken Jenkins says Astorino still has a security detail on payroll. But Astorino says he's been keeping his campaign promise.
"I'm very consistent with what I said in the campaign in 2005 and 2009," he said. "We have saved the taxpayers over $300,000. There is no dedicated security detail."
And he says what he does use has only cost the county about $12,000 in overtime in the past 16 months.
