Blumenthal: 'We Owe It To Our Veterans' To Repeal Time Limit On G.I. Bill
HARTFORD, Conn. (CBSNewYork) - U.S. Sen. Richard Blumenthal has announced legislation to repeal the time limit on veterans benefit.
As WCBS 880 Connecticut Bureau Chief Fran Schneidau reported, veterans are hampered by a 10-year time limit on the G.I. Bill, which affords them a college education after their service.
Blumenthal is pushing for congressional support to eliminate this barrier.

"I am very hopeful that there will be strong bipartisan support. The financial cost is minimal, the benefits are huge and we owe it to our veterans," Blumenthal told Schneidau. "For the 2.5 million veterans who have benefitted from the G.I. Bill, there may be thousands of others - we don't know exactly - who have been turned away because of this 10-year limit."
Blumenthal added the change is especially important now, because the ever-changing job market often requires retraining. He said that need for training should not be on a time limit.
