Bloomberg To Veto Bill Prohibiting Employers From Excluding Unemployed Applicants
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) -- New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg plans to veto a bill that would ban discrimination against unemployed job seekers.

A mayoral spokeswoman told The Wall Street Journal that the bill would make employers fear litigation from every candidate who walks through the door.
The City Council was expected to approve the legislation Wednesday. It would prohibit employers from using a person's employment status in a hiring decision.
Speaker Christine Quinn said the council would override a veto.
Council aides said New York would be the first city in the nation to allow job applicants to sue over discrimination on the basis of job status
New Jersey and Oregon have passed laws prohibiting employers from using language in ads that excludes unemployed applicants.
