Bloomberg To Push Gun Control Efforts After Term Ends
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A day after the first anniversary of the shooting massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn., Mayor Michael Bloomberg reiterated his call for tighter gun control laws.
While speaking during his weekly address heard on 1010 WINS, the mayor said he won't leave the gun control cause behind when he leaves office.
"Rest assured, I'm going to devote extensive resources of my own and work very hard" to curb gun violence, Bloomberg said.
The mayor applauded the bi-partisan organization Mayors Against Illegal Guns for playing a role in actions taken to curb gun violence since the Sandy Hook shooting.
Bloomberg also had some sharp words for Congress. "Despite overwhelming support for commonsense legislation to keep guns out of the hands of dangerous people, Congress has so far failed to act," Bloomberg said.
