NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Mayor Michael Bloomberg appears to be changing his tune on the special treatment apparently extended to hip-hop superstar Sean "P. Diddy" Combs.

On Tuesday, the NYPD said a sergeant allowed a police van to escort P. Diddy for a total of one city block  near the entrance for the Lincoln Tunnel after a concert last week. The department said the assistance was unauthorized and is under investigation.

"I don't know whether it's true...Maybe that was the appropriate thing – I'll leave that up to the police commissioner when he does an investigation," Bloomberg said Friday.

The mayor now says the incident is not worth the "great brouhaha."

Earlier this week, Bloomberg stressed there is no reason why police should have escorted the Diddy.

"The bottom line is the Police Department should treat everybody exactly the same. If you don't get a police escort, P. Diddy shouldn't," Bloomberg had said.

Police officials in Washington, D.C., attracted attention when they recently gave actor Charlie Sheen an escort before a performance.
