Blind Chinese Dissident Arrives At NYU, Prepares To Study Law
NEW YORK(CBSNewYork) -- Crowds cheered as Chen Guangcheng arrived on crutches at New York University on Saturday.
Chen thanked the American government and told a crowd of well-wishers and reporters that "I believe, no matter how difficult the environment, nothing is impossible. As long as you put your heart into it."
Chen landed at Newark airport on Saturday night, it was the culmination of a diplomatic tug-of-war that lasted nearly a month.
The blind activist is an outspoken critic of China's abortion policy. Chen escaped house arrest and sought refuge at the American embassy in Beijing.
CBS 2's Drew Levinson reported that Chen will spend his time in America recuperating his mind, body, and spirit, after spending time under house arrest, on the run, and hospitalized.
