Black Friday Rush Not What It Used To Be
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Plenty of people still flocked to stores on Black Friday in search of doorbusters deals. But according to some experts, the retail rush just isn't what it used to be.
"It's almost as if Black Friday has now shifted over to be Black Thursday," said NPD Group Chief Retail Analyst Marshal Cohen, noting the growing trend of retail stores opening on Thanksgiving Day.
"While still a very important day," he says of Black Friday, "it's not quite as important."
From what he's seen, stores have been relatively quiet.
Another factor, he tells WCBS 880's Peter Haskell, is the continued rise of online shopping.
According to Cohen, retailers are struggling to get consumers off their computers and into their stores.
So far, the big sellers have been big screen TVs and toys, said Cohen.
