Billy Joel Set To Perform A Concert A Month At MSG
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Billy Joel is set to become a franchise at Madison Square Garden.
The Piano Man announced Tuesday that he will play one show a month at "The World's Most Famous Arena," as long as there is demand.
Joel said playing at The Garden "never gets old" and the residency means "more opportunities to connect with music fans and to provide a unique and memorable show every night that we play there."
"I am honored to be considered part of the Madison Square Garden family," Joel added.
Shows previously scheduled for Jan. 27, Feb. 3, March 21 and April 18 are already sold out.
Tickets for the just announced concert on May 9, which is also the Long Island native's 65th birthday, will go on sale to the general public on Dec. 7. Prices range from $64.50 to $124.50.
The remaining shows will be announced at a later date.
Joel is no stranger to The Garden.
He has performed 46 concerts at MSG since 1978.
In 2006, Joel sold out 12 consecutive concerts at the venue, earning him a banner that now hangs in the rafters next to other Garden legends.

"This new partnership will ensure that someone who has been such an important figure in our past, will also be a major part of our future. We welcome Billy home and look forward to many unforgettable nights of music at the Garden."
In a statement, Gov. Andrew Cuomo said, "It is particularly fitting that these two great icons are coming together to make entertainment history right here in New York."
