Billy Joel To Play Nassau Coliseum's Final Show
UNIONDALE, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- Long Island's own Billy Joel will bring the curtain down at Nassau Coliseum.
The "Piano Man" will be the last act at the arena in Uniondale before it closes for renovations.
"Billy Joel represents the years of joy the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum has brought to residents and serves as an exciting reminder of the decades of entertainment our residents will enjoy in the soon to be renovated coliseum," Nassau County Executive Ed Mangano said in a statement.
"Who else but Billy Joel could play the final show at Nassau Coliseum?" said Barclays Center CEO Brett Yormark, who will oversee the Coliseum project. "Billy is the definitive voice of Long Island and has made a lasting impact on his community in so many ways. We appreciate having him close the building in such a fitting way as we prepare to give Long Islanders a spectacular venue with world-class programming and a retail and entertainment destination they will be proud of."
The Aug. 4 concert will be Joel's 32nd appearance at the Coliseum.
In 1998, Joel sold out a record nine concerts at the venue, earning him a banner that now hangs in the rafters.
Tickets go on sale May 1.
The arena will reopen in December 2016.
